Water pump and its types

 Introduction

A water pump is used to move, compress, or transfer water from a lower level to a higher one. The main purpose of a water pump is to transfer water between two points and to get rid of excess water. It is often used in construction sites, tunnels, river beds, and residential buildings.

Types of water pumps

Centrifugal pump:

These are widely used due to their simplicity and ability to handle large volumes of water.They are effective for irrigation and transferring water from wells and resources.

Submersible Pumps:

Ideal for deep wells or situations where the pump needs to be submerged in Water. They’re often used for irrigation, drainage, and groundwater pumping.

Installing borewell submersible pumps in agricultural lands is recommended to maintain a continuous water supply.

Submersible pumps remain completely buried in groundwater and are airtightly insulated. Using a hermetically-sealed motor, a submersible water pump pumps out liquid from which it is fully submerged.

peristaltic pump:

Agricultural and horticultural irrigation: These pumps can be used to dispense irrigation water in agricultural and horticultural applications. Plating and finishing: Peristaltic pumps can be used to dispense plating solutions and other chemicals used in metal finishing processes.

Diaphragm Pumps:

Diaphragm pumps are mainly used in agriculture for spraying and weed control and for the treatment of orchards, vineyards and olive groves

Diaphragm pumps belong to the category of positive displacement volumetric pumps, which exploit the alternating variations of the volume of a chamber (expansion and contraction) to generate imbalances in pressure and give rise to the pumping of the liquid.

Deep-well Turbine Pumps. Deep-well turbine pumps are adapted for use in cased wells or where the water surface is below the practical limits of a centrifugal pump. Turbine pumps also are used with surface water systems. Because the intake for the turbine pump is continuously under water, priming is not a concern.

 

APPLICATIONS:

Irrigation:

Surface Irrigation: Pumps lift water from sources such as rivers, lakes, or canals to distribute over agricultural fields.

Sprinkler Systems: Pumps pressurize water to be distributed through sprinkler heads, mimicking rainfall.

Drip Irrigation: Pumps deliver water directly to the plant roots through a network of pipes and emitters, optimizing water use.

Fertilizer and Chemical Application:

Fertigation: Pumps inject fertilizers into irrigation systems, allowing for simultaneous watering and nutrient application.

Chemigation: Similar to fertigation, pumps are used to distribute pesticides, herbicides, or other chemicals through irrigation systems.

Water Storage:

Reservoir Filling: Pumps move water from lower elevations to storage reservoirs or tanks for later use.

Distribution Systems: Pumps distribute stored water to various parts of the farm.

Waste Management:

Pumps move liquid manure to storage or processing facilities.Pumps manage wastewater from dairy and livestock operation
